Travel Commitment Policy

The Darien Middlesex School (MMS) Squash Team will field a total of 4 teams with 6 players. There will be A, B, C, and D teams, and placement will be depend on ability, attendance, and attitude. All players selected for the travel teams must be enrolled at Middlesex Middle School, and must agree to make squash their PRIORITY for the entire course of the season. Given the number of players we have at each grade level, it is not fair to have roster spots go to players who are less than 100% committed to squash in the winter. We expect and encourage all of our athletes to play other sports during the rest of the year, as it increases athletic development and adds to players’ enthusiasm for all sports they play. But we require that during our relatively short season, you choose squash over other event conflicts. If you are not prepared to make squash your priority, we will recommend outside clincis where players can develop their skills but where there is flexibility regarding attendance. NOTE - IF YOU ARE TRYING OUT FOR TRAVEL HOCKEY, BASKETBALL, ETC, THEN YOU SHOULD NOT TRYOUT FOR TRAVEL SQUASH (We would expect it to be the same vice versa).

Guidelines for the Season
  • This season masks and goggles are required on court, and it’s almost guaranteed that players of all levels and all ages will be required to were masks during the winter season (Dec-Feb).  Wearing masks may cause your goggles to haze or fog.  If you are experiencing this, we encourage you to purchase an iMask. The iMask+ WSD Mid Length Face Shield product has been designed for the specific needs of Squash Players.  The slightly shorter visor allows for freedom of movement while still protecting the face area. This protective barrier can help in the fight against COVID-19, and also provide impact resistance to protect your face from ball or racquet strike.  The iMask comes in adult and junior sizes (11% smaller for 7-10 year olds), and can be worn over Rx glasses.  You can learn more about the iMask (WSD Mid Length Face Shield) at https://www.imaskusa.com/
